Byungwook William Park, a senior student at Seoul International School, delivered a deeply moving tribute performance in June 2025 at the Comfort Women Memorial in Palisades Park, New Jersey, following his notable appearance at Carnegie Hall in New York. The event was organized to honor the women who suffered during World War II and to ensure their sacrifices are never forgotten.
Balancing his academic pursuits with a deep passion for music, Park has served as the principal violist of both the High School Symphony Orchestra and the Strings Orchestra. He also founded the IV Quartet, through which he has mentored about 40 children from foreign immigrant families in the Bucheon area, inspiring them to embrace music and building bridges across cultures and communities. “Music is more than an art form; it is a language that helps us remember the past and connect with the world,” Park said.
In 2025, Park performed William Walton’s Viola Concerto as a guest soloist with the Grand Philharmonic Orchestra under Maestro Hoon Seo at Youngsan Art Hall, and he has received multiple accolades in prestigious international competitions. Alongside these accomplishments, his tribute performance added a deeply historical and emotional dimension to his journey as both a student and a musician.
“The stories of the comfort women are not just part of one nation’s history — they are part of the global history of human rights. I hope their voices will resonate farther through music,” Park shared. His heartfelt performance left a lasting impression on attendees, highlighting the power of music to remember, heal, and connect across generations.
